Orientation Tour
(EASY 2-6 Hours)
This is a great way to discover chatel and its surrounding mountains and valleys. The walk is essentially aimed to show you the town, where everything is (Post Office, Banks, Bars etc.) and tell you a little bit about the local area and nearby peaks.
Super Chatel and Switzerland
(EASY 4-6 Hours)
The Swiss/French boarder is very close to the chalet and the object of this walk is to show you just how close ! Starting from the chalet we gently make our way up through Petit Chatel towards the ski area overlooking the village. From here, at the top of the Super Chatel gondola, the Swiss boarder is only a few hundred meters away. We can explore several easy peaks, walk down to Morgins in Switzerland or simply come down the gondola back to Chatel (runs July & August).
Chatel to Plaine Dranse
(MEDIUM 5-7 Hours)
This walk takes us up through Chatel village to Lake Vonnes and then along a track to the end of the Abondance valley at Plaine Dranse. Here we choose one of the delightful mountain restaurants for lunch before making our way back to Chatel.
Les Linderets and the
Village de Chevre
(MEDIUM 3-7 Hours)
This walk covers the main ski area between Chatel and the Linderets valley towards Avoriaz. The walk can include Chatel to Plaine Dranse (see below) or we can take transport to Pre La Joux or Plaine Dranse and continue from there. During July and August the chair lifts are running, which provide an easy route back if the need arises. From Plaine Dranse we walk up to the Col de Bassechaux and either come straight down into the Linderets valley, or do a spur upto the Point de Chesery (2-3 hour detour).
In the Linderets valley, we can either continue up into Avoriaz or walk down to Ardent Lake.
Point du Chesery This is a ridge starting from the Col de Basseshaux and up to the Point du Chesery, which lies on the Frence/Swiss border.
Abondance and Lac
(EASY 3-7 Hours)
Abondance, with its own small Abbey, is one of the most 'French' in the Abondance valley.
Mont de Grange
(HARD 6-10 Hours)
Mont de Grange is surrounded by the Valley d'Abondance and is a disignated national park. It towers high above Chatel to 2400m and is a wonderful walk to end the week.
Dent d'Ochs
(HARD 6-10 Hours)
.
Cornets de Bise
(HARD 6-10 Hours)
.
Dent du Midi
(HARD 2 day trek)
.
Saleve .
